Wow. Life has been busy! The past week I’ve been on the road, presenting an assortment of author events at; Moura, Taroom, Theodore, Bileola and Thangool - then back closer to home in Bundaberg. I’ve shared Storytime with kids and their carers, played with poetry as an afterschool activity, shared the process (persistence and patience) to publication with adults, had a day of author talks at Thangool School, where ‘the airplanes were louder than a distressed corella’ (gorgeous simile of place by two Yr 3 students), and a day devoted to poetry workshops with Yr 5s and their teachers at St Luke’s, Bundaberg. And it’s been fabulous! I love these opportunities to share a love of words and story with a wider audience. Every event was unique, and attendees/staff were so welcoming!

I was on a pretty tight schedule for my Banana Shire events, but I did manage to pull over to snap some pics in this new-to-me area, which inspired two draft poems, below.

     On Tour

     Bottle tree graces
     wide open spaces;
     allure.

     Brigalow traces,
     prickly-pear faces,
    endure.

     Breathe! Slow your paces;
     blue sky embraces
     detour.

At Thangool State School I shared space with Bev (and Kev), the gorgeous giraffe from the recent CBCA Honour Book, ‘Bev and Kev’, written and illustrated by my lovely South Australian friends Katrina Germein and Mandy Foot. Of course, Miss Understood was keen for a pic with Bev!

My take-away from this beautiful book?

     Bev was tall
     and Kev was small -
     but friendship is
     one-size-fits-all.

And now I have a zillion jobs that need doing! Being as it’s the 1st of September, I’d better Spring into them with the zest of new life. Hoping this season is blooming beautiful for you!

What a crazy week! Thank you for sharing your experiences. I love the beautiful blues and the symmetry of your photograph collage and the pictures with Bev and Kev.
